Have you seen our amazing Chatterboxes? Here's an example:

We use software called 'CrazyTalk' to make these... you just import a photo, add some speech and the software makes the photo say your words! They're really cool, and great fun to make.

Getting Started:
  • One of the laptops has Crazytalk installed. Make sure that you are using the right one!
  • Open Crazytalk, by clicking on the icon on the desktop.
  • Think of a character (an animal? a celebrity? a man / lady / girl / boy?), and what kind of things they might say. It might be useful to write yourself a short script.
To find your character...
  • Go to YotoPhoto and search for the character you would like. You can use most of the photos (apart from the ones on Flickr). Make sure that the head fills the picture as much as possible, with a clear mouth area.
  • When you have found the photo you would like, click on it to view the large version, then RIGHT-CLICK on it and choose 'Save Picture As". Save the picture in My Pictures.
Importing your character...
  • Go back to Crazytalk and click on the 'Import Image' icon. Choose your photo and click on Next.
  • You now need to tell Crazytalk where your character's eyes and mouth are. Move the numbers 1 and 2 to the edges of the eyes, and move 3 and 4 to the corners of the mouth. Then click on OK.
  • Now your character will come to life! Click on play in the bottom-left corner of the screen to test it!
Adding your voice...
  • Now it's time to add your own voice to your character. Make sure that the microphone is connected to the computer.
  • Click on 'Script'. You can now record your voice by clicking on the Red record button, and then on 'Record'.
  • Once you have recorded your speech, click on OK and hit Play to see the final Chatterbox!
Exporting your chatterbox...
  • To save your chatterbox, so that we can put it onto our school's website, click on 'Media'.
  • Change the Format to WMV File and the Target to Broadband PAL (384kps).
  • Then click Export, give your chatterbox a name (use your name(s)) and save it in the ICT CLUB folder on the Desktop.

Remember to add your information to the Register when you have finished!

Ideas and Challenges to Try:
  • Take a photo of your favourite toy and get him or her to talk.
  • Can you find a news report online and get a character to read it?
  • Produce a comedy sketch using some of your favourite jokes.
